How the age calculator works

Enter your date of birth and the calculator counts the complete years, then the complete months, then the remaining days up to today (or up to any other date you choose). It follows the same calendar rules people use in everyday life and on official forms, so a birthday on the 15th means you gain a month on the 15th of each month. It also converts your age into total months, weeks, days and hours, tells you the weekday you were born on and counts down to your next birthday.

How exact age is worked out

Age = complete years + complete months + remaining days

The calculator first counts how many whole months fit between the two dates, splits them into years and months, and then counts the days left over. Two special cases are handled carefully:

  • Month ends: if you were born on the 31st and the current month is shorter, the month is treated as complete on its last day.
  • Leap-day birthdays: if you were born on 29 February, your birthday in a non-leap year is taken as 28 February.

Worked example

Someone born on 15 August 1995 checks their age on 26 October 2026:

  • From 15 Aug 1995 to 15 Aug 2026 is 31 years
  • From 15 Aug to 15 Oct 2026 is 2 months
  • From 15 Oct to 26 Oct is 11 days

So the exact age is 31 years, 2 months and 11 days, which is 11,395 days in total. The next birthday, on 15 August 2027, is 293 days away.

When you need an exact age

  • Exams and government jobs: eligibility often depends on your age on a specific cut-off date. Enter that date in "Age on this date".
  • School admissions: minimum age rules are usually checked as on a particular date such as 1 April or 31 March.
  • Insurance and pensions: premiums and eligibility depend on your age on the policy or retirement date.
  • Passports and legal forms: confirm whether you have reached 18 or another threshold.

Your date of birth is used only inside your browser to do the calculation; it is never sent or stored anywhere.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate my exact age?

Count the complete years since your birth date, then the complete months after your last birthday, then the remaining days. Enter your date of birth above and the calculator does this instantly.

Can I find my age on a specific date?

Yes. Enter that date in the "Age on this date" field. This is useful for exam and job cut-off dates. Leave it empty to use today's date.

How are leap-year birthdays handled?

If you were born on 29 February, the calculator treats 28 February as your birthday in years that are not leap years, which is the most common convention.

How many days old am I?

The calculator shows your age in total days, weeks, months and approximate hours along with the years, months and days breakdown.

Is my date of birth stored?

No. All calculations run in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to our servers or saved.
